Running Workout

On Friday 8/16, I was finally able to get out for a run. Unfortunately it ended up being a hot mess. Not only because the haze burned off and things heated up quickly, but I had to cut the run short. Prior to this 2.65 mile workout I had a 1 mile warmup. After 3.5 miles of running I developed a pinched nerve in my back/hip and would get a shooting pain in my left thigh, calf and knee. It was a jolt enough that would sometimes feel like me knee would buckle. I tried to run through it, but just couldn’t and decided to stop. Still I was able to get in a decent run and add 8 sets of threshold repeats in before call it.

I had a run scheduled for Saturday, but my back was stiff and I didn’t want to risk it, so I took the day off.

Sunday was my next run. It was a long run, but again was cut short. I developed that weird jolting pain, though not as severe and wasn’t actually the reason I cut the run short. I ended the run early because I ran out of gas. I simply could not continue. I was so hot and absolutely dripping with sweat, my entire shirt was soaked. I also had the most unfortunate case of chaffing (betwixt the pillows, if you catch my drift). It was another hot mess of a run, but I did manage to do my 1 mile warmup and then 4.33 of the planned 6 mile run.

Strength Workout

I modified the workout a little bit. I wasn’t feeling like I was getting enough glute activation with the previous workout. I have kept the incline pushup and the step ups w/knee raise. I added tricep chair dips, single leg chair squats and standing oblique crunches. The squats were a killer though. I had to use my arms to help.

Some exciting news though. I was toweling off after a shower this weekend and noticed when I looked in the mirror, that I was really getting some definition in my chest. The incline pushups seem to be working well. It was encouraging to see results.
