Meanwhile, in Thoughtropolis…
Coming Soon
Something is stirring in Flab To Fab’s corner of Thoughtropolis.. Yes, I know the site just recently got a makeover—but that redesign became the launchpad for something much bigger. It reignited a creative drive in me, not just to improve this site, but to build an empire.
Site Redesign
Completed in April 2025. The goal was to give the site a more cohesive look, improve usability, and streamline functionality. I wanted it to be more aesthetically pleasing while also making it easier for readers to engage. That goal was largely met, and I was pretty satisfied with the outcome… but wait, there’s more.
Expansion
My interests extend beyond running. Yes, the weight-loss and fitness journey has been intense—sometimes annoyingly so for friends and family who’ve endured endless talk about races and diets. But I needed to explore other passions too. I’ve spent a lot of time obsessively planning what I want to create. Following through? Not always my strong suit. But the Flab To Fab redesign gave me the kick I needed and the momentum to finally act on some of those ideas.
Ideation
For over thirty years, I’ve wanted a central home for my writing. I love it. And if you asked my mom, she’d say I’m great at it. (That’s subjective, of course. I say I’m solidly mediocre, but I enjoy it anyway.) Unlike with visual arts—where a blank canvas stays blank—I can sit in front of an empty page and create something. That’s my magic trick.
Beyond writing stories, I also have opinions. Strong ones. I’m not usually loud about them, but I do write them down—only to stash them in folders or delete them. It’s time those opinions had a home too.
Implementation
While working on the redesign, my hosting subscription came due. That forced me to think strategically: if I wanted a centralized home for all this creative output, maybe I needed a better system. Turns out, better hosting options existed—ones that were cheaper and more flexible. I made the switch. That opened the door to a new domain name, too. Flab To Fab had been hosted under jarinsatterlee.com (RIP), and I had to decide: keep the ghost of that name… or invent something new?
I went new. After hours of playing with words and checking availability, I landed on: Thoughtropolis.com.
The Umbrella
Thoughtropolis combines two ideas: thinking (cogitation) and grouping. It’s a digital city of thought. A place to share the inner workings of my mind—creative, heartfelt, opinionated, controversial—and make it all accessible from a single hub.
The Additions
From this came two new sites: Scriblet’s Hollow and Signals & Sense. Naming these was its own journey.
Scriblet’s Hollow began as a home for my creative writing. Then Scriblet—the wrangler of my thoughts—appeared and offered to be my guide. He brought friends, too: Taddle came first, and more recently, Bleatoven.
Signals & Sense is still taking shape. But its mission is clear: to house my reflections, opinions, and philosophical ramblings. A home for the non-poetic parts of my brain that still deserve a microphone.
The Struggle
I’ve always wanted my websites to have two-way communication. Not just me talking into the void—I want to hear back. That’s been tough. Forums and feedback tools are either clunky, overly complicated, or come with legal baggage I’m not willing to take on.
Notifications are also tricky. Life’s chaotic. We’re bombarded by alerts all day. Still, I want to give people an easy way to know when something new is up.
The Future
So what does all this mean for Flab To Fab?
As I built out Thoughtropolis and its components, I realized Flab To Fab wasn’t quite positioned to do what I now envision. The creative surge got me thinking: what do I really want this site to be?
I landed on two goals:
- Showcase the progress and path of my personal journey.
- Motivate and inform others to start and stick with their own transformation.
To meet these goals, I’m considering two paths:
Split the site into two sections. One for my story—my races, experiences, thoughts. The other for community-oriented resources: tips, encouragement, maybe even live engagement through Discord or a Facebook group.
Create a new sister site. Flab To Fab stays focused on my personal journey. The new site takes on the role of coach, motivator, and community-builder.
Either way, Flab To Fab will likely go quiet for a bit while I figure it out and build the foundation. Thankfully, summer (at least here in the northern hemisphere) is a good time for downtime. I don’t run well in the heat, and this year I don’t even have a gym membership to fall back on like last summer. So you wouldn’t be seeing many updates anyway.
Just know: any silence o changes you see—on the site o Disco d—ae just signs of something in pogess. Not a goodbye. Just a good ol’ Padon ou dust.
[Apologies. The last paagaph seems to have been… Taddled. He’s been known to sabotage keyboards, finding some letters more tasty—when hunger strikes, which for Taddle is always. The missing R’s should etun shotly.]
So if things look quiet for a bit, just know—I’m not stalling. I’m staging.
